The Keys to Leadership

There’s an old saying about the difference between a manager and a leader: “Managers do things right. Leaders do the right things.” At 600 Global, we recognize how vital great leaders are. As a leader, part of your job is to inspire the people around you to push themselves – and, in turn, the company – to greatness. Leadership can be a struggle to develop, as there are intrinsic qualities that are tough to cultivate. But if you’re willing to face the challenge, and follow these guidelines, then you’ll be on the right path to becoming the leader your business needs to succeed.

Lead By Example

Actions really do speak louder than words. Good leadership takes a strong character and a firm commitment to do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason. This means doing what you say when you say it. If your team can’t trust you, you’ll probably never lead them to greatness. Find ways to energize, motivate and show confidence in your team with the belief they can do anything they set their minds to. At 600 Global we lead by example and when you lead by example, you create a picture of what’s possible. People can look at you and say, “Well, if they can do it, I can do it.” You must be willing to do the things you preach about.

Take responsibility

Deflecting blame is no way to build trust. Not only is owning up to our actions the right thing to do, but it can often overcome negative consequences. Business growth involves taking risks that don’t always pan out. Be willing to stand up for your employees and their decisions when expectations aren’t met. This will motivate your employees to feel they can accomplish what’s needed to achieve the organization’s goals. Be credible – people want to follow an honest leader. Be candid about why things didn’t work out, learn from the mistake and move on. People will trust someone who actively displays honesty.

“The price of greatness is responsibility.”
― Winston S. Churchill

Show confidence in your decisions

There is a rumor circulating that those who are confident are never afraid; that they confidently walk into the line of fire with no fear. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone has fears especially those who have to make big decisions. However, a leader that is technically qualified for the position, but lacks confidence, will find it difficult to lead others. Confidence is a state of mind and is the fundamental basis from which leadership grows. At 600 Global we know how vital it is for our leaders to maintain their confidence so that our business team as a whole remains calm, cool and collected.

Becoming a better leader means growing your expertise in whatever industry or niche you’re in; being willing – and able – to share your insights with those around you; being good at not only sharing your expertise and insights, but also at teaching others how to apply them so they don’t make the same mistakes; and being someone who your followers can trust and view as an authority figure. Our leaders at 600 Global have made a world of difference in our company by taking responsibility, remaining confident in their decision making and leading by example.
